Nobody is going to come out with a new cinematic percussion library in 2017 for instance unless they think they can do something better and/or different from HZ01, APE, 8Dio and so on. Old libraries are NOT necessarily bad BUT they create a floor for the marketplace over time. You would think that hitting a drum is an easy job but apparently not! It was kind of crazy to compare the hits from the two libraries and the Albion hits felt so much more emotional. In the end I found that Albion 1 (the legacy one!) has some very musical and lively sounds, and the mixer is flexible. So I loaded up SD2 (and the new PLAY works like a charm!) but the samples just weren't inspiring. But with the trick of playing them as quiet as possible. I was doing a demo just this afternoon and I needed some really BIG sounds - like a gong drum, bass drum ensemble, and some big pseudo-ethnic drums. But nearly everything else in that library is pretty severely depreciated I reckon.
